ENERGY SAVERS ProgramsInsulation Rebate Program
Keeping your home heated is difficult, particularly in Newfoundland and Labrador where cold weather is coupled by strong winds. Heating costs account for more than 50 per cent of the energy used in your home. Insulating your basement is one of the most important things you can do to improve the comfort of your home and save on your energy bills.
If your home was built prior to 1980 chances are you do not have enough insulation in your attic. Adding more will keep the heat in your home and help lower your heating costs.
Insulate your basement to R12 and receive 24¢ for each square foot insulated.
Insulate your attic by R20 and receive 20¢ for every square foot insulated.
To Qualify for the rebate:
- The homeowner must meet eligibility requirements.
- The Insulation must meet the insulation requirements.
Follow these three easy steps to savings:
Step 1: Complete an Insulation Rebate application form
Step 2: Purchase and install your insulation
- Select the materials to complete your project, or select a contractor to complete the work.
- Insulation material must be CSA approved and have a verifiable R value as determined by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC).
- Rebates will be given on insulation amounts necessary to achieve the recommended R-value using the eligible insulation material of the customer's choice.
- Additional insulation may be added to existing insulation to increase the total insulation to that of the recommended R-value.
- Rebates will not be paid on insulation beyond the recommended R-value.
- Rebates will be paid for basement/crawl space walls or basement/crawl space ceilings, but not both.
- To qualify for the rebate, insulation must meet the following Insulation Requirements.
Step 3: Submit your application and receive your rebate
- Once your insulation project is complete, submit your completed and signed Insulation Rebate application form to your electricity provider.
- You must also attach your original receipts for the purchase of your insulation material. (Customers can have their original receipt sent back to them by stating this request on the application.)
- Your electricity provider will process your rebate once you have submitted your completed application form and receipts. This may take up to eight weeks.
- Your electricity provider may conduct a post-installation inspection before processing the rebate. If you have completed an ecoEnergy Retrofit Home Audit and you submit your pre and post installation audit reports, an inspection will not be required.
